| Clutching a half-empty bottle of sake, Kurokotsu sighs and drags a marker across his right eye to show which one is to be replaced. As he takes another sip, he glances over at the dark blue eye still in a jar at his unclothed feet. Growling in the back of his throat, he lies down on his back and tilts his head backward, staring at the jar not even two feet away. “I wonder if it truly creates poison, or if that is just a misnomer…I guess I’ll know soon enough…” He says as he gulps down the remainder of the bottle.
Chucking it to the side, he hears it smash against the dingy brown wall of the cave and lets his right arm come down and rest on a pale white sheet. As he does, the last of the alcohol begins to set in and his vision becomes distorted. Closing his eyes only briefly, he falls unconscious, despite still thinking he is awake. As he dreams, he imagines the possibilities, running through them in what he assumes to be his sober mind.
The first possibility is the one he hopes to be true: The ability to breathe pure smoke out of his lungs like he does carbon dioxide. In his dream, he has engaged in battle with a shadowy foe, and has unleashed a dangerous toxin into the surrounding area. As he plays through this scenario, he feels a cut develop across his face: The truth being that the Medic-nin garbed all in black had just cut the nerves binding his former left eye to his skull.
However, upon realizing that such poison-breathing skills could be accomplished with a certain jutsu, Kurokotsu discarded that idea and moved on to another one. This time, he was sure it would be unique. It started as a battle against a robed figure, one of the enemies he had recently slain. He imagined the foe coming at him with a katana, and just coughing out a black tar at the enemy. This tar would grasp onto the targets’ face and eat it away, melting the flesh until nothing remained.
Even that thought didn’t satisfy him though; Kurokotsu still hungered for more as he felt nerves being sewn back together. Except, when he went through the next imaginary doorway, he came to a large lake and his face spread out across the whole of it. Except, he noticed one big thing was different about him. In the place of his old dark brown eye, he now had a piercing blue one in his left eye socket: The surgery had been successful.
Smiling to himself, he concentrated and slowly drew himself out of the drunken haze he had put himself in. Reaching out with one arm, he grasped a small black-handled mirror on his left side and held it up to his face. With a chuckle, he realized that the eye was now his. He looked around, aiming to thank the Medic-nin who had performed the operation, but found only a small note expressing thanks for the ryo he had given the man. | |
